I'd like to buy some toys and books for my 4yr old nephew. He's got lots of Thomas the Train stuff, so I'm looking for something new. Any favorites to suggest before I go shopping for the little guy?

my 4 year old sons favorite stuff is tinkertoys. also, leap pads and books to go with leap pads. if they have a yard, I just got my son water baloons, very cheap but a lot of fun. our standard birthday present is a game called caribou, but then at least one adult has to play to help keep the rules.

WHile I am seriously biased, go with Lego Duplo. Few things are as stimulating and may make him in to a future engineer (err, if that is a positive thing for you

- a goldfish
- a sleeping bag
- a small duffel bag to take on future sleepovers and family trips

By far the best gift my son got for his 4th birthday : a small backpack with a sleeping bag and a flashlight.
Great idea.

Yes. He loved it. He loves hiking and camping was even better.

based on my humble experience with my 3 year old daughter, the best gift i ever gave her was a bicycle. and because her favorite cartoon character is 'dora the explorer' a lot of those licensed stuff. though i really wish i didn't fall to that licensed merchandise trap. and i plan to order this online soon, seems like a very interesting toy (from a very interesting site)
