I believe Labelking posted this picture a while back.

Any idea who makes these frames? Also, what's the policy on tortoiseshell items?

Very stylish. Looks a little Sartre-ish. And a black suit. Quelle horreur!

I think that tortoiseshell frames are available in Japan. They're not uncommon among the old money crowd (or want to look like old money crowd). I don't know of any specific sources, but I remember reading an article about a artisan in Shitamachi (old downtown Tokyo) who specializes in them. It was one of those nostalgia/consumption/lifestyle magazines like Tokyojin. Good luck in your search.

On the Andy forum, someone mentioned they had ordered a pair of bespoke tortoise-shell frames and subsequently broke them. I think they were around $5000.

The RJMan upon hearing this made a comment which I do not recall but the gist of it remained clear.

"Rules" were made to be broken; or simply ignored. Di Renza is also a vintage maven.

Salvador Dali on acid.
It was originally upholstered in a pony hide, but was soiled during one enthusiastic designing session.
