I was thinking about picking up a pair of these this next season, though I'll probably just settle for black.

Tortoiseshell sunglasses are the business. The bigger the sides the better. Old Ari Onassis used to wear superb ones. As you can tell I like them.

I prefer them slightly rounder, but not Dominic Dunne round.

Francois Pinton made the original Onassis shades and offers a contemporary version which I love. Really bad for driving, though -- the wide edges of the legs make it impossible to see your blind spot.

Something must be wrong. It's been nearly two hours since this thread began and the Label King Automatic Post Generatorâ„¢ still has not produced a reply.

My tortoiseshell book condemns "tortoise-shell" as bits of speckled plastic that fashion magazines use to sell trends.

I see. Sounds to me like the Label King Automatic Post Generator'sâ„¢ settings were calibrated a little too sensitively. Dial back on the "persnickety" setting.

Don't shoot the messenger. The book was unusually scathing in its attitudes towards fake tortoiseshell.

Did it's author try having international harvest and trade on the plastic variety outlawed, or at least strictly limited?

Whether it is the width of lapels, ties, the point of shoes, the sides to glasses, etc....it is always better to stay away from the extreme, IMHO.

Ooh, I respectfully disagree. I think they rock, in a sort of OTT 1960s way.
