Was simply touching on the viability thing you mentioned earlier - still 50/50 on it. I heard Sidecar so it sounds like it will be far enough from me that I won't be able to casually bring any work mates to it.

I'm interested to see how the membership fee will impact the price (if at all) of drinks. On one end, you have the $0-startup, all-marginal pricing for drinks (like 99% of bars), and on the other (in theory) you could have a high yearly fee with $0-marginal drinks.

The membership fee (in theory) keeps out the undesirables and adds to the exclusivity. In practice, as others have noted, it doesn't work this way. I say if I were the owner I wouldn't sell drinks for cheap.

The fact the fee is $285 means that it won't keep out anyone other than College kids. Anyone with a job in Toronto can scrounge up $285 especially if it's for an allegedly exclusive membership to a high-end club. In fact, I wonder if the exclusivity aspect might attract the wrong kind of people.

$285 is spare change even to college kids. The website is terrible, $285 guarantees every 905er will join and the place will be a spot for the fake to attract the fake. If you're going to do something do it right, pay an established firm to make your website so that it looks halfway decent, not like your friends younger brother put it together in his time on winter break from grade 9. And charge $2850 for membership. Who is running it is also important to those wanting to join, anyone who would create a frankly horrific website such as above to market an exclusive product wouldn't convince me to spend a dime.

The fact members here would even consider joining something as atrocious as this speaks to the city's population as a whole, a tenth as sophisticated as any in NYC or elsewhere. If you want exclusive in Toronto, join the granite club.

I can't quite figure out the benefits of the Granite Club. Their web-site is also lacking. It seems they have odd activities (classes, bridge, speaker series, wine tasting), is that it? What does a membership go for?

You're pretty harsh on the website. The ones that do cost $2850 (National Club, University Club, etc.) don't look all that much better

I would look into that but sadly I'm of too humble a background.

When I lived in Toronto I probably spent $285 a month going out to bars/clubs/on alcohol. I am 20.

A month? One night in Toronto, easy. In 1990.
