I know it's January, and my primary purchases/tastes of late have tended toward younger and urban rather than retired and seaworthy, but part of me likes these Sperry Topsiders in green...

Sockless with shorts, in spring/summer? Would it be possible to wear any other color with these? Another part of me is horrified, and my grandfather would likely be horrified that these are on sale at Urban Outfitters...

Sockless with shorts is really your only option with these, and you may rest assured that this shade of green will complement all colors equally well.

I think there are two ways to wear these:

One would be as an ironic hightlight to an urban/hipster (i.e. south of 14th street) look.

The other would be to embrace the paleo-preppy aesthetic and wear them (sockless, natch) with a range of casual things -- khakis and a blazer, pink trousers, seersucker, etc.  Just be careful that they don't match too much (e.g. NOT with green trou).  If you don't really do the hideous/preppy resort wear look already, though, I wouldn't start with these, fun as they are.

I think that there should be a regular use of the term "paleo-preppy" to describe all the trad threads at AA. In fact, I am not even sure that they'd mind it.

The irony might well be lost, as the color is so insistent and "textbook" prep. The second avenue suggested by Scylla (no, it's Charybdis) might be available, but the bright prep colors are a trad variant that may be geographically restricted to venues I (or you) don't visit (Martha's Vineyard, in the older section?). If you're interested in these "trad" variants, visit "Ask Andy" but be prepared to spend most of the day.
