Topman Jacket Size

I am interested in ordering a wool jacket from Topman. According to the Topman Size Guide, a size L is 40-42 inches, and XL is 42-44 inches.

I have a 42-inch chest. I wear a 42R suit jacket, and most of the jackets I own are medium and have a snug fit. I have never tried on a Topman jacket, so I am hoping someone who has can make a recommendation as to the size I should get.

Thanks a lot!

In my experience top man comes up very small. I wear 33" trousers everywhere, but I need 36" from them. I'd be inclined to go for the XL. Also remember that it's ultimately a skinny kids shop, not one for adults.

I'd second going for XL, and even then you're likely to find it pretty snug.

I've got a 44 inch chest and I don't fit into any sort of jacket that Top Man produces, but then I'm fairly wide across the shoulders.

Just received the "Grey Wool Mix Hooded Jacket" on their website. It's a size XL, and the shoulders fit well, but the belly portion is pretty big... Thinking I should exchange it for a Large. If I unbutton the jacket, I can overlap one side about 5 inches comfortably. Would going down one size give me a more fitted jacket? I'm afraid if I get a medium, the shoulders would be too tight...

Ah, the problems faced with OTR/High Street shopping!

Historically, I always found Topman's sizing all over the place; I had two suits at one point and one was a 40" chest and the other a 42" yet they both fit the same.

If your budget stretches to it – and you deem it worthwile against the intial outlay on the suit – you can always get something too big tailored down (within reason).
