    In no particular order:

    Brown is for farmer.

Combining blue and brown is not a crime.

You are as good as naked without a pocket square.

Black suits really look as ghastly as I thought.

    Always show cuff.

You can make a kite from a Thomas Pink shirt.

The difference between fused and canvassed.

    Wonderful words like sprezzatura.

That you can sound sartorially erudite by making wisecracks about spalla camicia.

John Lobb, Edward Green, Cleverly, Santoni FAM, Koji Suzuki, Janne Melkerson, Corthay . . .

"Trad" is possibly the most contentious issue of the 21st century.

Wearing a DB unbuttoned is a sartorial faux pas non pareil.

    Certain brands are utter crap.

    Denim can destroy someone's life.

    I'm one lucky bastard.

    1. I can now rationalize shoe prices, which were previously thought of as merely insane.

    2. ...more pocket squares

    3. That I just can't make a bow -tie happen, and I shouldn't re -think that.

    4. I could use better pants and shirts and, well better everything.

    5. When I started paying attention to the details, my close friends started paying attention to the details as well.

    6. I've enjoyed meeting some of the SF contributors socially!

    7. One is hard pressed to find a bad picture of Monica Bellucci

    8. I'm rethinking the DB option.

    3. That I just can't make a bow -tie happen, and I shouldn't re -think that.

What's up with that? I wore a bow tie to a sports bar the other day and a few people got mad at me! This girl came up to me and told me if I asked her out wearing a bow tie, she'd tell me to take a hike.

Her outfit was jeans and thermals. That's right. Her top was long johns. I told her that I was having trouble getting my head around the concept that I would ask her out.

The owner of the bar, to whom I was talking before I was interrupted by this delightful little princess and her charming opinion on my bow tie, thought I looked sharp and referred to her as "white trash" in front of her face. He also gave me a free pizza.[IMG]

As far as what I learned on styleforum...

    - AEs at retail are a better deal than Armani at a thrift store

    - When I cross myself, I say APC, nudie, rag & bone; instead of father, son, holy ghost

    - That one day I will have a suit made in bottle green, and a topcoat made in plum, and if you don't like it, then to heck witcha.

    - While Germans love David Hasselhoff, they really like shell.

    - If you have lots of money, the best way to let everyone know is to commission a bespoke suit...From Kiton.

    - Artisan Fan loves him some Rolex

    - I love me some Hickey-Freeman

    - That there are a lot of very nice looking Japanese girls on the internet.

    - That Kenneth Cole is evil.

    - That Ralph Lauren's name is not really Ralph Lauren.

    - That $400 and up shoes are not really that expensive.

Most useful thing I've learned so far is that once you know how to read a shoemaker's model numbers, you can (sometimes) decipher which last the shoe was made on and anticipate how it will fit based on the fit of other shoes from the same last......which makes ordering online or in a store where they don't have the exact model you're looking for in your size that day much easier [IMG]

I have found sprezzatura to be a most useful word when justifying something in my clothing that does not appeal to a friend or colleague.

Poems such as "No brown in town", except that this doesn't apply in America because there are too many people from Naples living in America and because you only need a population count of one and a large signboard to call a place a city in America.[IMG]

The Sartorial Police really exist in SF, and will immediately charge those who are persistently overenthusiastic in sartorial matters with the offense of trolls trespassing in Sartorial Forum. But the Dark Force here is much, much less than elsewhere, thank goodness.[IMG]

SF has a very large population of hippies who are not keen on dressing like Mafiaso dons, as seen in films like Mobsters (1991), who prefer to live in NY.
