Prof would definitely be the one to ask as he would know better for specific applications, but I think RIRI M8s would be a solid standard choice.I need to to replace zippers on 2 leather duffle bags. Can anyone suggest some top quality zippers? thanks,

If you have any interest in it, definitely it would be good to learn the quick basics of bag-detection (haha). Generally, it consists of feeling the leather, feeling the lining, and checking out the hardware. Hardware is generally a super quick way to tell; what kind of snaps/zippers/studs/metal attachments/locks, etc. are used. While leather or lining can be hard to tell from a picture, ****** zippers and hardware can generally be seen right at a glance. It's sort of sad to see a $1500 bag that uses 30 cent YKK or no-name zippers. BUT, buying a $20 set of RIRI M8s might seem, to their accounting department, unnecessary. As customers, we definitely might disagree. RIRI, Lampo, RY, MRS, and Opti tend to be "better" zippers used. YKK is sort of the Toyota of zippers; they have a Carolla, and they have a Lexus. Not all are bad, but in general, they can be quite cheap and it is a big turnoff to see an $$$ bag with them. Fiochi makes good snaps/attachments, and a German company I can't remember (They used to be on a lot of Versace, Goldpfiel, etc.) Maybe somebody can add in? There is also a Swiss company that makes briefcase locks... I can't remember it now either. Will google! It might be a good part for this thread to add more details about how to determine a good bag at a glance.
