If I don't need to be that formal, I'd wear a blue shirt to begin with.

I see your point. I have both, however my french cuffed white shirts far outnumber the rest.

Foo I admire your ability to always be difficult, but I certainly see your point. I feel the white barrel cuff fills a niche of when I'm wearing the political uniform (for interviews and such) where I dont want to offend anyone with my french cuffs. I suppose a white pinpoint oxford would be even better in that situation, but I enjoy my spread collars.

I only have two white shirts in my rotation with one fc and one barrel. I agree with the thoughts about white shirts and formality and will replace the barrel cuff with an fc when the barrel shirt wears out.

How about top 4 shirts to wear with a white labcoat? I feel like a white shirt under a white labcoat looks a bit silly.

Difficult? I was trying to make things as easy as possible.

Barrel cuffs make sense for a white OCBD. Whether or not an OCBD should be one of only four shirts is a separate debate.

Inherently a more casual setting, so colors and patterns you like and look good on you. If you're wearing ties, stick to lighter stuff, simply because a tie lighter than the shirt nearly always looks bad. If not, go nuts. Maroons with stripes. Bottle green. Hell, even the ever shunned black shirt.

Basically, buy stuff you like that falls within the bounds of propriety for where you're working. Surgeon at a high end clinic is going to be different then chemical engineer playing around deep in a lab somewhere.

I'm with this furry friend here.

If you can only have 4 shirts, might as well be all white.

1. Broad cloth spread collar, barrel cuff
2. OCBD
3. Broadcloth cutaway, double cuff.
4. Whatever.

White shirts are as versatile as you can get. Dress up, dress down, whatever. Lacking character? That's what accessories are for.

Is a very light blue or gray a good alternative for white on business occasions? I try to avoid white shirts as much as possible.
