Too Soon for Seersucker???

I know the rest of the US is in the middle of a blizzard, but here in SE Texas it will be 77F tomorrow.....Is it too soon for seersucker? Or should I wear a blue blazer and repp tie? The tweed, which normally doesn't get used much, may get even less usage this year.
I really wonder just what it will be like in July-Aug. with late March like temps now....

M'eh, go for it. Sometimes I'd wear my seersucker navy blazer with a sweater underneath just to remind me that spring is coming (that was when it fit me... )

Sometimes the rules (and I'm aware this is a big one-summer fabrics in the dead of winter) can be played with, and poked fun at if you can do it the right way.

I wouldn't wear seersucker in the middle of winter, just because I'm somewhere where the daytime high will be in the mid-70s.

I won't go so far as to require it to be between Memorial Day and Labor Day, no. Come springtime, if it's going to be in the 80s, go ahead and put on the seersucker. I've got no problem with that. Breaking the seersucker rule under those conditions shows that you're confident enough to know when it's okay to break a rule and show some original thought. Breaking the seersucker rule today just shows that one doesn't get it.

The blue blazer sounds like a perfectly acceptable choice, seeing as how it's essentially "weather neutral," and can be worn as appropriately pretty much year 'round. You want to wear a repp tie with it, fine. Not the only choice, but there's nothing wrong with it.

Tweed sounds a little off, given where you are and what the weather's like. Although if I had to choose between a relatively lightweight tweed and a seersucker suit, on a temperate January day, I'd absolutely go with the tweed. I mean, in a heartbeat.

As something of an aside, is seersucker all that common in SE Texas, even in summer? I've been led to believe otherwise. Not that there's anything wrong about wearing something which is locally a little uncommon, in the right circumstances.

I'm in Texas as well, and I'm waiting till mid-late March at the very earliest before I put on seersucker. As far as its true prevalence, During the warmer months, you can expect to see at least a couple of seer sucker suits/coats/trousers/etc.

If that's the guideline you choose to follow, I'm not going to argue with you over it.

But my own guideline is that - dependent upon appropriate weather - seersucker is acceptable anytime post-Easter but pre-autumnal equinox. The "Memorial Day to Labor Day" rule may make sense in the region where it originated - New England. In more temperate parts of the country, I feel it can be somewhat modified. Just not to the extent of wearing seersucker in January.

Actually, I believe the classic time frame is/was May 15th to September 15th, the former being known as Straw Hat Day and the latter as Felt Hat Day. May 15th was the first day you could wear one and September 14th being the last.

Concerning the straw hat, I was just uptown and ran into both the sheriff and constable of our community. Both men were wearing straw hats. It is not they don't own felt hats, they do, but I just checked the official temperature. It is 83F. Both would cook wearing a felt hat, or at least ruin it with sweat stains....

'sucker is not a "winter" material. i would just wait until may-ish to pull it out...

Coming from Georgia, I'd say that A) 77F isn't warm enough to justify/require seersucker for those of us used to warm temperatures B) it would look weird in January. It wouldn't be the sartorial crime of the century, but it would be strange in a jarring way.

I've certainly worn seersucker in April, but it can easily be in the 90s by then.

I am from the South. It is a matter of personal taste, but seersucker is never o.k. I just can't void the image of Col. Sanders. To me, there are simply better options.
