Looks like bad finishing by any standard. Return/exchange if you paid retail

This shoe looked like it skipped QC, maybe the person checking was on a cigarette break that day.
If retail, return for refund or exchange.

I think it's difficult to make judgements on the construction quality with those pics, particularly the last one. I have a few TF shoes and they're okay, a bit fashion forward and you pay a bit for the name but otherwise construction is decent.

The last pic makes it look like the shoe is falling apart, but it might have something to do with the flash on the camera I used. I took another look at the inside and there is nothing like the deterioration as seen in the pic. Odd.

Shoe looks great, just curious - How much did you pay for them? If you paid full retail, there are plenty of better quality shoes for that kind of money.

Paid $500 (marked down 50% from $1000). They had a few left at the Madison Ave store (also some boots).

These are my first oxfords with such an elongated last; how much space should there typically be in the toe box? I ask because feet obviously don't become narrow as they hit the end of the shoe (i.e. an elongated last doesn't mimic the shape of the foot).

They look fine in terms of quality control. A tiny scuff here and there can happen just sitting around in the box. That interior shot is a wee bit alarming - looks like some 'shop wear' on the lining?

Other than that they look pretty good for $500.

    Rock on.

They look fine to me. You would get more wear than that wearing them to cross the street.

As I mentioned before, there is no fraying visible to the naked eye (the inside has a suede like texture, so there is some 'shlubiness', but not deterioration). I think the flash did something with the contrast.

On a side note, the boutique isn't bad but the SAs are hit and miss. One was very distant (I guess he didn't think I would buy anything) wheras another one was friendly.

Shirts are half off as well ($260) but only a few sale suits and SCs left.

$500 is fair price. I don't think there is a set rule on how much toe box space should be left, it's totally up to how you like it. I personally would not want a last that is too elongated which would end up looking like a pair of clown shoes. If you think they look abnormally long, just return them if you're not 100% happy.

They fit fine actually; they don't feel loose when I walk in them. But there is some space at the end of the toe. The outsole length is the same as my 9D AE Fifth Aves, but which has a rounded last).

Toe space is not necessarily a bad thing. About an 1" to 1-1/2" is very normal in chiseled lasts/sleek shapes.

As long as you like the looks, and they are forming creases behind the cap seam you are good to go.

    Thanks for the input.

They do look great, and the wood finish on the soles looks great.
