Tom Ford Eyewear Quality - sunglass lens defects/inconsistency

I recently purchased a pair of Tom Ford sunglasses that look quite fantastic and are polarized. This was at one of those large designer sunglasses stores in Milan.

To my dismay, a friend with polarized sunglasses noticed dark streaks proceeding inward from the frame. They are minimally visible to the naked eye, but very visible when viewed through a polarized lens. What's more, I ultimately noticed that when looking at my phone with them on, the right lens blocks what most be 80% of the screen's light while the left lens, perhaps 40%.

I suppose that's what I get for betraying the amazing lenses of my Maui Jims. I know most designer lenses are garbage, but I thought surely Tom Ford would be a cut above.

Still the worst part is when I went to a Tom Ford boutique in London to see what might be done. They wouldn't even look at them without a receipt. Just my luck to have probably discarded it. Last recourse is to go to a proper optician, since Tom Ford doesn't seem to stand behind their Eyewear.

Is this just bad luck? Or have others found Tom Ford Eyewear (and customer service) severely lacking.

As it stands, I can't recommend them. I'm sure most pairs are fine, but let this post serve as warning. Look very closely when purchasing.

They got Maui Jim too? >sigh<

I use to love B&L Ray Bans. Then when Luxxotica got ahold of them with their reverse-midas-touch, I had to swear off them for life due to lens and frame issues. c'est la vie I guess.

As for Tom Ford eyewear, they're made by Marcolin. Don't know much about them.

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
