solid entrance, man.
+1 great outfit and photo
CosmicOsmo - Australia or California?
But seriously though, what's the deal? This thread moves so fast that I take a few days off and there's all kinds of new shit going down. Is there some sort of prize?
bumping this up for CosmicOsmo and everyone else
fuck, Synthese, fuck.
That VTG CM fit is crazy slim.
A couple of questions I have: Why is the VTG not on the TOJ site? Can one still get it? And last, and kind of important, how much is it?
If the VTGs are discontinued will you give everyone a week or something to get in last orders? I'm definitely going to get one but I'd like to see how my peacoat fits before I order.
I think it's still in production.
In this post, Drew said $825
In a later post, he said $810
Look, it's your jacket. Do what you want with it. I take this as a craft project, and enjoy the fact that most likely all these jackets will look different in few years time depending on treatments used as well as the environments they are exposed to.
As you mentioned, this material is really thirsty. This worried me a bit.
After testing 5 different oils, 4 different waxes and 2 different body lotions, I decided to use the least oily of the lotions I had.
This is generic unperfumed stuff from the pharmacy. They come in wide range of products from basically oilfree to very oily.
As you prolly do not live here in Finland, the product names will not be of any help to you.
Go to your nearest pharmacy and ask. They really should know.
As I tested different oils to the test pieces that were treated with lotion, I noticed that oil spreads more uniformly after the leather has been "primed" with lotion.
Still, I decided to put in another run of lotion yesterday. This time a bit greasier product from the same product family.
I mentioned that this leather will shed a bit of material during the first application/rubbing.
Oil is less effective in removing this in one go than lotion.
Again, do as you like, but the very first lotion treatment followed by rubbing and brushing silenced my jacket. Also made it more comfortable to wear.
It is still very stiff, but much softer than in the begining.
I think I'll apply one more coat of this semi-greasy lotion, heat the jacket a bit after that to improve penetration and apply one thin coat of mink oil to finish it off and leave it at that.
If you wish to darken the jacket ASAP, use the oils then.
Lotions do not darken the jacket too much.
My personal opinions and observations only. YMMV.
These latest VTG pictures make it a very intriguing buy. I was set on reordering a bomber (slimmer measurements) but these latest VTG got me thinking otherwise, especially with Drew's comments about having a cut off date.
I think everyone who follows this thread can agree.
