Continuing with the car talk, I was always thinking it was my mortgage ($2,500/month not counting utilities) that kept me from buying more TOJ. But it's also because I have a G37 coupe. :D

My dad actually paid the full amount for it (I bought a 1 year old used one for $30k) so I won't have to pay interest, but it was still a lot. I'm slowly paying him back. I doubt he will even ask for me to pay the full amount back. My dad's awesome.

Seriously considering selling it to buy a cheaper commuter car. I need to get a new job.

It happens when the mileage gets high, man. My 335i was flawless until about 65,000 miles or so. Then the problems came pouring in, haha.

If I had to buy a cheap commuter I'd probably get a basic Prius, how much are they in the US? I don't buy new cars though, but I'm guessing with the hybrids you gotta deep cycle the battery during break-in to get it to run well over time - I bet most American owners don't really do that well enough, so hybrid cars with battery packs are the one type of car I'd buy new, 0 miles...

I actually like the way the new Focus looks, it's European looking now and much higher quality looking than the original Ford Focus... but in the realm of cheap cars, none of them are particularly sexy, and are meant to give off this 'sensible' vibe... so I'd rather just get the one I like the most, and drive the hell out of it til it bottoms in resale, drive it a bit more after that, and then get a new one. In the old days that used to mean getting a Civic and driving it for 6-8 years. haha.

Good suggestion until I looked up the price. They start from $23,520 here...for the price, I think I would rather look elsewhere. The styling is meh and for that price, I think there might be better. At least I hope so...

What are the prices for restored vintage G-wagens like in Japan?

I'd be hesitant to call the new Focus an American car. Much like the first gen it's Ford's world car and was designed and developed overseas. They've kept more of the European flavor this time around, too.

they kept importing them here without interruption from the '90's to the present, unlike America where you had to buy old ones through that grey market importer or later buy a brand new one, after 2004 or something. You can get a pretty nice 2002 or 2003 G500 (older 3v engine with the newer interior from 02) for like $30K here. They are supremely popular here, you see one every time you turn around.
