You didnt mishear. I sent him a couple of emails about it when the news broke. :) I remember reading somewhere that he just decided to drop the idea for now because the costs associated with producing one to his standards would be nauseatingly high (selling at 3k+/jacket or something).

^i think the cost of the shearling on bomber collars is more than the cost of the leather...per square foot/yard

We dont really pay for that actually, the guy provides it himself, we pay him a combined flat fee for the material and the labor to make that part since the sizes of those collars only deviate a small amount. They're all custom and don't fit other jackets, but they're reasonably within the same range of material requirements, so we've had that agreement for two years and it will continue.

I always wondered, is the shearling made out of real fur?

edit: also, is calf back from its hiatus yet?

there's always calf. There's just no calf bombers, and never will be again.

Any further thoughts on a TOJ shearling jacket? I know the idea was mentioned a while back.

Sorry, I searched this thread but couldn't find the answer. Was there a downside to using calf? I've read that it lasts longer and ages better than lamb.

No downside, the bomber guy just didn't like it cause it's tougher to use.

Aw, that's a shame. I think I'm clumsy enough to require the use of calfskin instead. So the bombers are the only leathers not available in calf?

The ToJ lamb is as thick or thicker than most of the calf jackets I've handled.

just got my 2011 toj1. it's sick, i actually unexpectedly love the camo side. i can see what people are saying about the cut though. i have pretty narrow shoulders already and it's quite narrow across the shoulders, even for me. then again i didn't get it m2m, i got a stock 46 in a trade. i'm like 5'11 145 so i imagine that's what i would've gotten anyway
