LOLL awesome. what shall we name him?
Would like a design similar to Junya's - fresh and clean
I think something like an oiled leather would be pretty cool
The gant varsity from this past season was pretty spot on -- clean, herringbone red, cream leather sleeves. Price was whack though.
Spoiler: Non-TOJ jacket spoilered
In reference with the Varsity, i think you should keep the structure of either the ToJ1 or ToJ0, but start mucking around with weird fabrics like Moiré fabric or something out there and different. I would rather not see a total leather option as i think these jackets should be one of your cheaper options as they have been before. Gateway ToJ so to speak.
If you are trying to go crazy please make an egg-shapped varsity. I want that structured oversized design.
This is the first response I've liked since Drew went asking. Weird prints, like "freak a video camera out" prints, is the only reasonable thing I've heard so far.
Also, fuck, that VTG is gorgeous dude. I hope to be at that level, like, next year. I must ask, with your treatments of it, has it become at all water resistant?
probably going to make the new varsity my first toj purchase, very excited . the all black toj0 is what got me hooked so i'm in favour of keeping it classic with a few tweaks
That's right guys lets just rip off ideas from other big name brands!
I like the egg shape though
I haven't been through a storm or anything, but it is reasonably resistant, it absorbs a little water but doesn't stain. I think for it to completely resistant it requires one last coat of wax. This leather really soaks up liquid so it's been hard to over saturate it with oil. The total tally is, 4 coats of Obenaufs oil with a applicator that comes with the bottle and 1 coat of Obenaufs wax by hand.
If you want the colour to come out like mine, the best way of going about it is if you know there is going to be a high UV sun the next day, oil it the previous night, then hang it out on a clothes line. i would leave it out while i went to work. The sun and oil together browns and tans the leather.
in reference to the new varsity, for it to be "crazy" it needs to make other people want to have a closer look, but not in a gimmicky freak show way, but in a holy shit that's something different and cool!
Yeah, I did find that the the sun seems help the oil permeate the leather better, kind of spreads it out a bit somehow and mellows it overall. A bit of heat helps, but I think it's more an effect of direct light and UV rays, I was doing testing into like October and it wasn't particularly hot.
Or, if you're looking to save some money on design costs, you could just sell a regular jacket with a few cans of compressed air.
