For no reason, I started wearing this lately: Those are not my images and not photos of the particular watch on my wrist, but mine is the same model. Mine is fitted with a modern Tag/Heuer bracelet that isn't particularly great. Any suggestions on something better? For those who care, the watch dates from early 1970s. The movement (cal. 11) was a collaboration of three makers (Heuer/Hamilton and Dubois Depraz) who worked on different modules and was an attempt to create the first automatic chronograph. As I recall, there is some dispute as to whether they were really first or not and I think it depends on when you mark success. It uses a micro-rotor.

I bought this about ten years ago to give to my dad, who bought me a TAG/Heuer for my 21st birthday. (He gave me a choice of an Omega or a Heuer since that is what he remembered as being "honest" watches from his day; my quartz TAG/Heuer is still ticking though everything but the case has been swapped over time and I have been told it is no longer serviceable; if a new battery doesn't work, it is history.) Being fundamentally selfish, I gave him something else and decided to keep this for myself instead.

Beautiful watch, Dopey. I've always liked old Heuer chronographs--the Autavia is particularly pretty. I'd put it on a leather strap. There's always alligator, but I think pebblegrain calf with contrast stitching would be particularly cool on this watch.

Can't blame you for keeping those. That watch is classic!

Thanks. you reminded me, M, that I have a sharkskin strap somewhere and I should check to see if it fits - it might not be wide enough. I should probably look for an Heuer buckle from the right period and style.

I know the perforated straps look good on these watches, but except for the ones with small holes, they crete an overall affect that is a too much for me.
