Today I wore American jackass look

I believe this to be a version of American jackass:

I had on 501's -- which I bought too large because I thought they'd shrink but they didn't. I had on Church's plain bluchers. Dark grey J. Press wool socks, white t-shirt old with hang-dog collar seam, and a blue pinpoint oxford cloth Brooks shirt with windsor collar (old version, made in USA). I wore the collar open and the shirt untucked. Sleeves rolled up a few times, maybe three.

I like this look. It might be my new one.

I think the term "American Jackass" has been taken a bit too far. The only thing keeping its usage from sounding unbearably haughty is that we are typically referring to club-going fratboys (true jackasses in most cases). But what fratboy wears a Brooks oxford to the club? The further the term is extended to include the typical American male (which, for me, is the image your outfit evokes, but I could be misreading your intention), the more offensive it becomes.

It really doesn't sound that 'jackass' to me, Horace. It actually sounds pretty nice. The only thing jackass would be the untucked shirt, but that's only margianlly so at best.

Yeah -- the shirt untucked is one of those things where if the shirt tails are too long (in this case they were) it ends up looking more jackass than intended, I think. Â I don't want the rest of you to get upset. Â I'm not trying co-opt the look, just trying to demystify it's horror. edit: or should that be banality.
