From the BBC news website on the proportionally large number of Brits who died when the Titanic went down due to being polite:

"There was one gentleman who was rather wealthy... who went back downstairs after he put his wife on the [life] boat... put on his tuxedo...went back upstairs and smoked... with the idea that if I am going die, I may as well die as a gentleman and well-dressed."

Now that's commitment!.

While it's nice to talk about, that kind of "gentleman" behavior will not happen today. It's everyone for himself and loser dies.

You are born alone, you die alone.

This is without a doubt how Id go out. I couldn't bother with getting in one of those rinky life boats and freezing in the middle of the atlantic. No, sir. I would throw on Midnight the stars and you by al bowly, light up a nice Padron 80th anniversary, shine my shoes, throw on a tux, and go out like a gent.

while you may think that you would go out like a "gent", you would nontheless gurgle and struggle in your dying process, like a common whore.

So no thanks, ****** be on the lifeboat.

I don't smoke either, but given those particular circumstances I might be encouraged to start.

I think I'd be headed for the bar!

Yes. I would. Preferably well-dressed as well. But good and drunk one way or another.

Of course the other alternative would be to die the way our boy Clint Eastwood did in Gran Torino. With selfless honor, class and a proud middle finger raised to your enemies. That's style.

I certainly hope I could die as a gentleman. I'm afraid, though, that if the circumstances allow it, I will cry like a baby.

If I was to face impending death in the freezing waters of the Atlantic, I'd might as go straight to the Captain's private liquor cabinet and finish off one of the good ones as soon as possible.

At this point, I would probably give my spot in the lifeboat to my shoes, asking that they be conveyed to safety.
