It isn't much but here's what I got from Toni, a side by side comparison of the Picasso and Van Gogh. They really need to add top down pictures rather than the soles.

boy, that really make the Van Gogh last look pointy. It looks like it has more rounded corners whereas the Picasso has sharper corners.

I was just about to place an order, but I'm reconsidering now.

All lasts look pointy and aggressively shaped when you just look at the actual lasts, you have to remember that two pieces of leather and a stiffener will come on top of that. I'll upload some photos and film comparing to Picasso in a bit.

So, here's some shots.

Two Van Gogh samples:

Van Gogh to the left, Picasso to the right:

Van Gogh to the left, Picasso to the right (not perfectly aligned toe spring due to different shoe trees, and hard to capture the shapes, but anyways):

And a film, Van Gogh to the left with wooden TLB shoe tree, Picasso to the right with plastic Skolyx travel shoe trees.

So, as I stated earlier and which I hope is evident now, they are very similar in terms of how square they are and how chiseled the sides are, but Van Gogh has a more chiseled toe tip with a sort of "ridge" when seen in profile, while Picasso has a more even downwards flow all the way forward.

Yeah the Van Gogh reminds me of Yeossal's SG65 last being chiseled with that "hump" on the top. I like the Van Gogh last a lot and think it would look good on a pair of split toe derbies.

Thank you. This is perfect. I was very afraid this might happen!

I like both!

Did you use different shoe trees so you wouldn't mix them up, cus to my (untrained) eyes they are pretty difficult to differentiate ;)

It's not a huge difference, but in person it's quite evident, more so than what can be achieved with an iPhone :)

In your personal opinion, which one would you say is more formal? Let's say I wanted the same shoe model in black and in brown, which last would you use for black, and which for borwn?

No real difference in terms of formality. Honestly, it's just down to personal preferences here, which one you like best aestethically.

Two questions.

  1. Loafers - Jones vs Goya.
  2. Soles - City vs Leather.

Are the price of Goya and a Leather sole, worth it over lower priced shoes with Jones last [Loafer] or City sole [Monk strap].

Currently contemplating a loafer purchase, and the price difference is ~$60 USD. Not sure I feel very strongly about the Goya over the Jones, but if someone else has experience with them, let me know. As for the Monk strap, the price is around $100 USD difference to get a Monk Strap with the City sole vs Leather -- I'd have to customize a MS from TLB to get the Leather sole and without upcharge for a JR outsole it's around $100 more.

I wore my first pair of TLB Mallorca shoes today - for the first time. My initial impressions are jolly positive! I have barely recovered from ungodly blisters on my heels and it left me baffled that there was no rubbing on the heels on my first wear. Honestly, there was almost no break-in and the shoes fit me right of the box. The leather was also very nice and soft, but durable to the touch. I did leave them unpolished and will continue to wear them unpolished for 2-3 more times to have the leather open up more - only brushing until then.

All in all, my first impressions are stellar, very comfortable and good looking shoes. Though, I must say, shoes with such a long toe need a little time to get used to.

Also, I must comment on the customer service. I wrote to them to make sure that the sizing was on point and Toni replied and was super helpful in advice, measurements, similar brand sizes etc. He also made sure that I would select the correct size shoe trees. Pretty sublime, in my opinion.

Brown hatch grain TLB Artista in the Goya last.
