Tips on handkerchief top pocket

what is the general protocol on this... is it ok to use a normal hankie or is it best to use a special one, silk for example?

with sports jacket or with a suit? what are you preferences? discuss. Thanks.

One can use a normal cotton handkerchief carefully folded for this purpose. Most of us who favor pocket squares prefer "dedicated" squares of linen, cotton or silk. Linen and silk are preferred by most aficionados. I believe woolen squares are availabe, but I have never seen one for sale. Linen and cotton squares must be folded, silk can be folded but is preferable (I think) puffed or stuffed.

These days, whenever I am wearing a jacket that has a pocket for a square, I wear a square in it, regardless of whether I am wear a tie.

Using the search function on this forum will turn up a lot more info than I can give you in a couple of minutes.
