Tips on casual stubble - shave and let grow out or trim?

I like the look of a little stubble:

Is this a simple shave clean and let grow back lazily, repeat, or is there trimming involved to keep constant?

If you want it to be consistent, you're going to have to trim. Facial hair growth can be uneven. The top picture looks trimmed for sure.

Based on this thread plus reviews I found elsewhere I went and got one. At $60 it aint cheap, but it is the right tool for the job. Best $60 I've spent in a long time - it does exactly what it purports to and does it well.

While I do need something to keep the hair even, I want something that can also keep create lines on my neckline/cheek line. Can iStubble create lines or just trim?

It's adjustable blades will range from trimming .4mm to 1.8 (or something really high like that). But, you can take the "guard" off of it to bare shave to the skin (although I haven't done this). If you're wanting to get lines by trimming all the way down to the skin (essentially shaving) then I think you could do it by removing the guard, but I'm not sure.
