I've been looking for a convenient way to compare OWS with Stalin, so this will do just fine.

You mean this guy...

...Time Person Of The Year twice apparently.

Time Person Of The Year 1938...

I think one has to look at these things in context though. The USSR was an ally during WW2 and the US was friends with Nazi Germany in 1938, obviously before WW2 and Pearl Harbor.

Here's another interesting one...

Ayatollah Khomeini.

Think this was after the 1979 Iran revolution and during the American hostage crisis.

Richard Nixon "Tricky Dicky" was also Time Person Of The Year(twice)...before Watergate.

Strange choices..

Pierre Laval was also man of the year before his collaborationist years but it was for great economical recovery..

Isn't Time Person of the Year supposed to be the most influential person that year whether they had a positive or a negative influence? In which case Hitler was pretty hard done by.

IMO the guy who set himself on fire should have been Person of the Year for sparking off riots in every Arab country, a civil war or two (for now) and new governments in several (for now).

Adolf Hitler as the Time person of the year for 1938 doesn't sound weird at all. Not one person came close to as being as influential as he was, who turned a sad gimp of a state into one that made Europe trembled at its knees.

he set himself on fire in 2010. would that still make him eligible for the 2011 recognition?

He influenced 2011 more than anyone, do the rules say its who has the most influence on that year or who does the most influential thing within that year?
