Tightness of shoe tree in shoe

Hello, I just bought a pair of Santoni shoes in UK size 8. Unfortunately I only have shoe trees (the ones you can get from grapevinehill) in size Large (9 1/2W - 12 1/2N). Luckily it was possible to get the shoe trees in the shoe without brute force. How can I know if the shoe trees (see pictures below) are too big for my shoe? What degree of tightness is reasonable or allowed? Mike

They should be snug but if you have to use brute force, they can damage the stitching in the shoe, according to my cobbler. You can see there is a unhealthy bulge in the side of the shoe there.

I'd say get smaller shoe trees.

If the shoe is a bit tooo tight... I have used oversized trees to stretch them out. Am i doing damage to the shoes... possibly. Do i care... no.

Hello, The shoe code on the inside is: "7168 50 F 8", the colour is dark brown. It is part of a limited edition (bought in a shoe store called "Manwood" in Amsterdam). I really do like these shoes, I got many complements on these Santoni shoes. Mike
