I love to find ties i like and there is no limit to the fantasy in tiesmakers. But while choosing a nice pattern and good natural fabric is important to me, it's even important to find the right size or, better, the correct width. So, for my phisycal structure, i find 2.5"-3" wide ties are the right measure i have to wear.
So I ask myself if other SFers give the width the importance i give or you just choose the tie because you like the pattern and you appreciate the fabric.
sorry for the bad english. it's not my mother language.

Yes, width is very important; I also prefer 2.75-3", as 3.5" or wider ties just look silly on me.

Length is slightly less important than width, being short I am well used to having to tuck the narrow end into my shirt because of it being much longer than the wide end. It would be nice to have ties the appropriate length, but that generally means going bespoke, e.g. from Sam Hober (which I fully intend to do in the near future).

A lot of members keep their tie widths within the realm of their lapel width, which of course should be a function of their body width.

Since I tend to wear them tucked in, I tend to look more at pattern, color and texture. Although I am a sucker for ducks.

(Also the types of flying dinosaurs on them. Since I am a full Old Tyme Creationist, I will not stand for an Archeopteryx as they are a "transitional" fossil.)
