Is it bad to wear a tie to where it shows coming out the bottom of your vest? I'm a short guy and having to tuck the my tie into my pants is annoying, and yeah, if I make the tie shorter, the knot gets way too big.

What way? Showing beneath the vest?

I mean, I think having a little tie showing beneath the vest would look cool, but my expertise is in trolling, not style. I need a little guidance, thanks.

I am not a fan of the exposed tie below the vest look. Do it like this.

    How short are you, exactly?

Well you're taller than Tom Cruise so life's not all bad for you.

I don't have any issue with my height....well...no conscious issue at least. Only one minor grype, seems all the nice looking ties are made for tall men.

I have the other side of that coin, I'm 6'3" (6'4" if I don't slouch) so I have to make sure the ties will be long enough.

We still have some things in common, like we've both banged Nicole Kidman. Well, in my dreams that is.

oh hey, somewhere I can help! I happened across this site a few days back after seeing another q from a shorter person:

    http://shortshrifted.com

They have an entire page on shortening ties:

    http://shortshrifted.com/?p=1745

and a PDF file comparing all the common mall brands by length:

    http://shortshrifted.com/?page_id=192

Of course, if you're willing to shell out, you can just get custom ties. I have mine made to 53" in length by Sam Hober. I'm just under 6ft tall and that comes out comfortably shorter than my vest (short enough that I can't really wear them without the vest), so you'd probably be fine with that length or even 54". Easiest thing to do is just measure a tie you have, tie it the way you'd want a tie tied, measure how much longer it now is than you'd want it to be, subtract that from the total tie length, and that's the length you want.

Tie peeking out from under your vest is definitely incorrect. It's not hideous, but it's not right.

btw, on store-bought ties, I can usually get away with double or even triple looping a four-in-hand knot, you have to fiddle with it a bit but I don't find it unmanageable.

How big do you consider "way too big" for the knot? I have ties shortened by having part of the middle section removed and tie the resulting ties in a FIH knot without the result being what would be considered overly large. I don't wear vests (as in 3-pc suit vests), but the bottom end of the ties don't show when wearing sweater vests. This should work for you, too.

Not to be flippant about your situation, but have you considered wearing bow ties?
