Tie for Thanksgiving

My family celebrates thanksgiving at a country club with around one hundred people in attendance. Dress is casual, so a suit is not necessary, a jacket and tie is. It is the one event every year where I am expected to wear a tie, so I try to make the most of it. My outfit so far: • BB Fitzgerald Charcoal Herringbone Sport Jacket (newly acquired for the event) • white dress shirt • charcoal trousers • brown shoes, either perf caps or, if I am feeling adventuresome, my Leather Soul chromexcel wingtip boots • optional BB cinder heather (greyish brown) v-neck sweater I have yet to find a tie in my collection that seems appropriate, but I am considering picking up a knit tie since I have none. I was looking at Howard Yount and was wondering what some of you might think of one of the grey and orange knit ties with the described outfit. here are links to the ones I am considering: http://www.howardyount.com/collectio...th-orange-dots http://www.howardyount.com/collectio...-double-stripe Am I right in assuming that a cream silk pocket square would be appropriate? Am I barking up the wrong tree with the grey and orange knit tie idea?

Thanks Mr. Moo! The answer was so obvious, I cannot believe I didn't think of it. For some reason I kept thinking of burgundy or brown knits and rejecting them, but never a Loden green. Do you think the Cypress green at HY would be close to Loden? I was going to order a scarf from him, and adding a tie would get me free shipping. If not, who currently makes a good Loden green Knit? I keep seeing more Emerald greens as I search.

Last year at Thanksgiving we purchased a young Indonesian boy at auction, then we made him dress up like a 1920s flapper girl and beat his ********* while we threw sweet potato casserole at him and sang sea chanties in Czech. Pretty typical stuff.

Unfortunately my Thanksgiving is usually a lot less mondo-exciting than yours. The most enlivening activity is when I desperately try to remember the names of people I see only once a year, and I am bad with names to begin with. Probably due to the gin.

Agreed. After lots of poking around on the internet, I have come to the conclusion that this Drakes model must be the standard for color (sorry, colour). Since I do not have time to mess around with international shipping and can't seem to find a local source, I will probably order this one from J.Press since the colour looks very close. Are J.Press knit ties good quality? I really like the wool bobcap I got from them last year.

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
