Looking for a tie for night out to the club/bars/lounge/new years.

I want to sport a tie with a plaid shirt but can't decide between a 2.5inch vs a 3inch tie.
What would you guys recommend for a good night out look?

if it helps, i can find a pic of the shirt. thanks.

Good tie width depends on the rest of your outfit and how young or edgy you want to come off. If you are a fit 20something with a fitted shirt that has a narrow collar, slim pants and slim lapels (if you plan to wear a jacket at all), then go ahead and wear the 2.5 inch. Otherwise, the 3 inch is more classic and easier to pull off.
