I'm spending the day in NYC with my girlfriend and she is interested in going to "good" thrift stores, second hand, consignment, whatever shops and possibly flea markets. Any suggestions, locations, anything? Thanks

Beacon's Closet is a popular hipster "thrift" store. There's one in Williamsburg and a smaller one in Park Slope.

There are a couple consignment shops in the East Village - Tokyo Joe and Tokyo Seven. I recommend Tokyo Joe (334 East 11th Street). Both sell designer stuff.

There's a decent place, Metropolis, on 43 3rd Avenue (and 10th Street) for thrift rock kinda stuff, though it's a bit pricey.

Out of Our Closet at 136 W. 18th Street has very nice (i.e. designer only) merchandise. Gabay's, on 1st Ave. just south of 14th, usually has some good stuff. It's not technically a thrift store, but rather sells remainders (which I guess is better) from Saks, Bergdorf, Davide Cenci, etc.

I'm sure regular NY thrifters can suggest some others....

Use the search function. There are several threads on this, I think.
