Be sure to compose the image in your mind before you begin
Put on some entertaining music, something you won't be distracted by, something soothing*
Aperture wiiiiide to get some shallow depth of field
Exposure time up up up so the little fibers dance in the light
    RAW format for the ultra-close

This is clearly the more appropriate video for the thread.

^ I just watched this on mute with the The Fountain video (above) as soundtrack. It was epic.

I believe your video is mislabeled. Joplin never produced a recording. It might be a piano roll (I don't have sound here so cannot listen), but that isn't exactly him "playing" the composition. :foo:

These were posted like 2 years ago (I replaced the original image links with updated ones from imgur).

so, this is slightly off-topic, but I feel it belongs here. I walked into a fabric store with the intention of sewing my own "rick" tank or t-shirt. So I'm walking around looking at fabrics, trying to get the right one. I chose a fabric and it happened to be $50/yard cashmere/wool blend. damn. I settled on a cotton/poly blend and a rayon blend, but I have a new appreciation for nice fabrics.

This was taken with an iphone and a hand lens (I'm a geology major). It's just cotton

I don't really have much of interest, and I think I could have done a much better job focusing for sure. Maybe I'll get some better light and use a tripod and try this again on something more interesting?

Quality is pretty poor and I don't own this anymore but people seemed to like it so I'll allow myself to recycle from an old B&S :teach:
