Thoughts on Zegna's Z line

Just wondering how you feel about these suits, considering what they are, and what market they are aimed at. I know they are not anywhere near the regular Zegnas as far as quality, but on their own merits, what do you think? I'm starting my first job that requires suits every day, and I have to have flat front pants. I just picked up two of these for about $320 each, which seemed like a good deal considering the fit (very good on me), but I don't know much about this line. I'm told they are similar quality to Hugo Boss, which I never even look at because they don't fit me at all.

There's your answer. Mediocre fabrics and construction, fused suits, not worth full retail.

But an ok deal at almost 70% off retail?

By the way, based largely on you endorsing them, I picked up my first Brioni tie, though not the one I linked to. I got a lime colored one with a small navy and white pattern at Saks with the suits, for $68. The lime is bold, which I like, but the pattern is almost Brooks Bros. conservative, another plus for me. Looks awesome with a navy suit and white shirt.

DGP, yup. The "Z Zegna" styling is not bad, if boring at times. The issue is with the quality-price ratio, however at 70% it is a good buy.

Thanks guys. Also, a question about sizing, because I was a bit torn: I got a 52 long, and also tried a 50 long. The 50 fit a tiny bit better in the shoulders, but was too tight across the chest. The 52 fit in the shoulders, just looked a bit less trim, but fit just right across the chest. I am assuming that I would have been very unhappy with a 50 in the long run, because, as the salesman said, I'm moving, not standing still most of the day.

Lol, I've stopped even looking at the waist on a suit jacket. I look at chest, shoulders and length (through the body). BTW, anyone who lives near a Saks, their sale stuff, all of it, goes to 50% off the lowest marked price tomorrow. The salesman told me he wasn't going to ring it up till then for that reason.

I have one Z Zegna from Bluefly. It will be my last. It bubbled in the lapel before its first cleaning. (No - never had it in rain before that). I NOW only use it as a rain suit. I truly cannot believe Zegna would put their name on something that poorly made. I paid about 40% less for the Corneliani I bought off of STP, and they are light years apart in quality.

It is a shame when a high quality name prostitutes itself for mass appeal. I remember when it was rare to find a zegna suit in my town, now they are everywhere. Now that zegna, a cloth manufacturer has decided to take on boss, they will throw there name on anything. It is getting harder to find Italian made zegna. I was at their flagship store in manhattan. I was looking at their xxx couture striped dress shirt. On the exact same stye of dress shirt, on one of them the stripes on the shoulder matched the arm, on another dress shirt, same colour and everything it didn't. Clearly quality suffers when you go mass appeal.
