Thoughts on vintage sports coats from the 60's?

I came across a couple of vintage Hickey Freeman sports coats and a suit that are from the 1960s. Nice workmanship and materials, flat-front, full canvass. I like the high arm holes typical of that era and the fit that is more snug. The center vent is vertically shorter than the modern slim fits jackets today. I can't post pictures right now and haven't worn them but can these jackets work in todays fashion? Pics?

Whether they work or not is entirely up to you. Before I started putting on weight, I had several vintage suits from the 1960s. I loved the sharkshin fabrics, tight fit and skinny ties. But I don't work in a bank, law firm or multinational corporation. Being an academic, I could show up to work wearing just about anything without raising comment - well, at least not to my face. It depends completely on your context and whether you are comfortable in marching to a different drummer. Being in a profession that tolerates eccentricity, I have freedoms that some others do not. I would not have done that if I were in a more conservative milieu. I still have a couple of vintage suits - my favourite is a very old tux with shawl collar. But as I filled out to my present panda-like state, to which 60's fashions are less congenial, and as my work changed to having to meet with politicians, the press, etc, I tend to dress more conventionally.

My suggestion to you, given that you already own these clothes, is to wear them and see how you feel in them. Follow your muse, which will not lie to you.

I think if the shirt, tie, and shoes are modern and everything fits well you'll look sharp. If it's oversized or in ill repair or whatever then it'll just look old and discheveled. I also think it's important that you're known to be dressed well in general so when something like this pops in it's clear you know it's vintage and are wearing it as such. Like Tibor's hat makes the whole look retro but without it he might just be a thrifter... (not quite but somewhat)
