Thoughts on this Tyrwhitt tux?

At $472.50 (half off the meaningless 'regular' price) it seems like a decent value. Wool/mohair, SB, PL, one button, ventless, silk facings, etc. All the features I'd be looking for in a suit I'd likely wear twice a year. So the question is, how much better could I really do without spending countless hours scouring the web and discounters for deals? Also, I'm not really comfortable with ebay.

I put out the same feelers a few weeks ago. No one knew much, but nonetheless I put in an order, due for delivery next week. I'll update my previous thread once I've got impressions to share. Cheers.

Assuming it fits you well with minimal alterations, I don't think you could do much better. This is primarily because the majority of tuxedos sold here are notch lapel. Finding a great tuxedo on super sale in the style, material, and size you need is like the holy grail of discount shopping in my opinion. EDIT - unless you are in New York. In which case, wait for the Hickey Freeman sale. They should have some marked down to around $500. A few people bought them at the last sale, and they are going to be better made and last longer than the CT tux.

Also, if you happen to be in Gotham, you can always try on the CT tuxedo at their store and then order it for 50% off from the site. Or wait for the mad dash that apparently is the HF sale.

I can say from looking that it is very, very rare to find a peaked lapel, classic tuxedo at all, much less on discount.

Note the important point that for unknown reasons the CT has working sleeve buttons, so you are going to be limited in your alteration options there. I'll get measurements up soon.

I would argue that unless you need a tux right now, you are better off waiting for a better-made tux at a good price. This one will cost you approx. $530 with taxes and shipping. You can definitely do better than that.

I know I could more than likely not find a better deal in my size so, it really depends on size.

The tuxedos at the HF sale were only $300. They had a nice selection of sizes (38-44 mainly), but only 2 styles: 1 button notch lapel center vent, or 3 button (!) peak lapel center vent. For $300, the notch was fine with me.
