Thoughts on Corneliani?

The other day, walking down Calle Serrano here in Madrid, I discovered that above the shops of Prada and Loewe at the corner of Serrano with Goya, there is a Corneliani shop that I had never noticed (and that in spite of the fact that I worked for four years just across the street!). I have no experience of Corneliani, but I have seen this brand mentioned a few times on this forum. As it appears to be less known then Zegna, I thought that maybe the price/quality ratio might be more favourable. What is your opinion on Corneliani? What is it like if compared to, for example, Zegna, Pal Zileri and, let's say, Hugo Boss? Are there items by Corneliani that are especially interesting?

Corneliani is often quoted on this forum as having one of the best price/quality ratios. In the spectrum of brands it fits just a bit below Canali, roughly the same as Zegna mainline and better than Pal Zileri and Hugo Boss.

Corneliani has three lines.
CC , Trend , and the main line.
It should be clear on the tags which line the piece is drawn from.

The main line is very nice with great fabrics for the price.
I am not sure that I would place it below my Canali, just different.
I would say that holds true for the those mentioned, Zegna, Canali, Pal Zileri (main line only) and Corneliani. They are all in about the same ball park albeit holding slight differences.
Boss is not on the same page.
Which fits you best?

I love me some Corneliani.

The mainline offerings are very nice, fully canvassed suits, while Trend and CC are both fused. Trend, as you might expect, is meant to be more fashion forward, but it's usually not that far out. I've seen several Trend suits I've found tempting. (Think brown chalkstripe with bold buttons.) There's a Marshalls not far from here that often has Trend suits in stock for $399.

CC is a less-expensive introductory line, targeting younger folks and those with less income to devote to suits.

Personally, I think the mainline stuff is an excellent value, particularly when found on discount. Pinstripes can often be had for $450 or less; solids are harder to find, but can sometimes be had for $600 or under.

In general, Corneliani works very well for the tall and slim. Shoulders are usually moderately padded and roped. The style is just flashy enough, in my book -- can be worn out for an evening on the town, but still conservative enough for the office. If you like the cut, it's a great suit.

As said before,

Corneliani main line, Canali Milano and Pal Zileri white label are on the same level

All three are fully canvased and machine made.

Most Canalis I have seen come with the sleeves prepared to have functioning buttons, but the buttons are sewn over it, it is an easy task to make them functioning. I have seen Cornelianis with non functioning sleeve buttons and others prepared to have the buttons sewn (buttonholes sewn but the buttons are not applied), so you can chose to sew them over the sleeve or make them functioning. Pal Zileri white label come with non functioning buttons, the Pal Zileri Sartoriale line has sleeves undone so you can customize as you wish. However the Pal Zileri sartoriale line is above corneliani and canali... it has also hand detailing and canvas shoulders.

The three are on the same retail price level, around $1000-$1200 for a suit here, depending on the fabrics used.

Here in Switzerland and in my city Geneva I have more access to heavily discounted Zileris than the other two brands, as there is a Zileri outlet channel, that is why I have mostly Zileris ( some 12 suits ) and I can sometimes offer Zileri suits for around $250-$350 in the Buying and Selling forum.

Canalis and Cornelianis can be found also discounted, but are more on the $400 - $600 range

The cuts are however different and I think Zileri have a much wider palette of fabrics to chose from. depends on everyone's taste.

Isn't there a 4th line called Corneliani Sartoriale ? I have seen these in a NM and they usually price above the 3 lines above and have better materials.

Thanks for all the feedback. I found it surprising that this shop was placed upstairs, without any clear indication or sign at the entrance door (I guess that you have to use the main entrance of the building, and walk up the stairs). That is not very frequent, I mean, most clothing shops are at street level, at least around here.
May main concern about RTW suits is that I have a problem with the fitting. Normally, if the jacket is approximately right, the trousers will be far to wide at the waist. Sometimes the salesman tries to convince me that alteration miracles can be made, but after some unfortunate experiences I just don't trust that any more. However, I guess I could try on some Corneliani suits and see how they fit.
Apart from suits, how is the rest of their stuff? I mean, like sweaters, ties, shirts, belts, shoes (?), odd trousers? Today most brands appear to try to cover the entire spectrum, but sometimes with more success on certain types of items than on other.
(In any case, you have convinced me that I should at least go and have a look. Thanks again.)

I'm a big fan of Corneliani as well. Corneliani is my "go to" suit for both work and play. I like the fabrics they use, and their cut seems to be pretty appealing for my body. Most of all, I like the quality/price ration. You get a fully canvassed, nicely made suit in a beautiful fabric that can usually be had at a much lower price than comparable stuff.

On the other hand, I'm talking about discounted Corneliani. I'm probably not at the point where I would pay full-retail for Corneliani (because Isaia, one of my other preferred makers, can be had at discount for what Corneliani costs at retail). But again, not to take anything away from Corneliani - it's an awesome suit.

There is. I have one of their jackets. They are supposed to have more handwork and appear to be a slightly softer construction.

There may well be but all the literature I have from the company makes no reference to it, nor does their web site, or the one and only dealer here (who has not been the most reliable chap in the past).

Is it a current or past line, or repackaging of the main for certain clients?

i know, and its even better..if he bought that suit,at least i would ask him how it is holding up after 14 years(time is one of the big factors to make the difference between a great suit and good one,bu ti guess you dont know that thanks to your childish reply), so dont post if you are off topic, thank you so much

Now, if we are talking about Thoughts on Corneliani , its fine, otherwise dont bother...you really came here just to post these kind of replies?nothing else to do right ?! you should read the rules..this topic is about Corneliani and its opened and not closed
