Yup. They are not staying true to the brand if the clothes are still understated but the prices are now outrageous. $4k for a ready-to-wear BB suit goes against all the Yankee sensibility that supposedly underlies the brand, and is all that makes it still a cool American brand, in my opinion. This make BB even less appealing, since now the philosophy seems as off as the execution.

We'll see. Perhaps they'll inject a little Browne into the mainline stuff.

In the same article, Robin Givhan takes a swipe at us, i.e. DC men.

"The men of Washington are maligned for their attire, not because they refuse to dress in the knife-sharp, adventurous silhouettes of a Hedi Slimane or the colorful playfulness of Paul Smith, but because they don't wear their clothes with either gusto or confidence. Their sartorial crime is not an unwillingness to engage in Fashion but a refusal to take pride in their appearance."

Bingo, I smell a flop in the making. With any luck, this line will go the way of RRL denim thus far, and end up on ebay for 10% of MSRP

:fingers crossed:

I knew this was a Robin Givhan piece--impotent, treading on delicacy, striving for wit, and a general aura of ordinariness.

I suspect the only way she received her Pulitzer was the fact that she was a prominent black journalist.

Expected forum Thom Browne whining aside, $4k for what amounts to a Thom Browne Lite suit is just stupid. I honestly expected it to top out at $2k, max.

I think the Thom devotees will keep that from happening. I don't think Brooks is going to move much merch at full retail, but once the price drops, the stuff should sell, I'd think. And I'd gamble that what makes it to eBay will do pretty well.

The sympathy vote for having been married to Mike Tyson probably helped.

And that truly is a shame. If they had priced it lower, they could've sold more, made more, and more could've trickled its way to outlets and such.

Oh well, I was looking forward to the collection until I saw the price tag.

They should have had him design a collection for the 346 factory stores, maybe then the suits would have been $2000 and under and the sweaters under $1000.
