This zegna tie = obvious fake. Correct?

Picked this up on ebay and immediately noticed that the style of ribbing as well as the lettering on the tip is like no other zegna I own or have seen. Unless they've made some new ties like this that I'm unaware of, the conclusion is obvious. The tie is also thin/unsubstantial and is the only one of 5 zegnas I have that doesn't tie a good knot. The seller has of course offered a refund and points to his ample positive feedback from other buyers (of whom I'm fairly sure none own real zegna ties). Your thoughts?

Do they even make Zegna ties? What makes you think the first one is fake? Can you post more pics (label, "Made in" tages, etc)

The label near the tie loop, as well as the one on the skinny end of the tie were both accurate so pictures won't help. Zegna has never to my knowledge made a tie with brown lettering, or with ribbing like that on the tip. In the pic, the ribbing looks like the normal thick ridges, but if you look closely, they are actually thin ridges separated by flat space.

I have one Zegna tie with the same labeling/backing as your second tie. I also bought it used so cannot speak definitively to the authenticity of it but it appears identical.

Second tie is real, I've seen it at Saks before, and the labeling is fine. First one seems fine also, I have no reason to doubt it.

My two Zegna ties have only one set of ribbing while OP #1 has a vertical background set and a horizontal set under the letters. I just noticed the spacing on the last "a" on your tie is much further off than mine are. On any of your other Zegnas, is there different ribbing for the lettering and different ribbing for the rest of background? Does your care tag resemble the others you have (or mine)?

I have see that same pattern in tipping of a Zegna tie before. I'd be confident its ok.

I've seen a lot of fake Zegna's and Boss ties on ebay before and I'm tipping the top one is a fake. They can make good copies these days but you can normally tell the difference in the quality (unfortunately that's when you've already bought it) . You mentioned that it won't tie well and I guess it is probably quite thin also? Further to that, if the seller is happy to give you your money back NQA then they might just be a bit guilty?

I have bought some fake LV, Gucci, etc ties online from a warehouse in China, knowing they were fakes. They didn't cost much to buy. The looked exactly like the original, but the quality of the fabric was terrible. I imagine it would be quite profitable to buy these fake ties from China then sell them as "real" ties on ebay. Edit: Here's the website I used to buy the ties: http://www.wholesale-mall.com/Default.htm The site clearly says that the ties are replicas, not genuine. DO NOT BUY FROM THIS SITE. The tie quality is beyond terrible.

The font on the suspect tie is awful. I have to agree with Irv.

My Zegnas all look like bobber's tie on the left. Thanks for the pics.

Almost every piece of clothing article is fake on e-bay; especially if the origin is Hong Kong, China and even LA.

Sometimes the fakes are so good most people cannot tell the diference, so i would suggest if the item in question is brand new and under 75 % value: assume it is fake.

Looking for bargains is a bad idea, just pay for the quality and if it is out of budget try to find something suitable as a replacement.

I have 6 Zegna ties that I've purchased at retail, here, and on eBay. All six have the EZ logo in the crosshatch pattern of your second example.

No, this is flat out wrong. I've bought probably 50-100 pieces on ebay and the only fakes I've gotten have been one canali tie and possibly the tie in the original post. It's usually pretty easy to spot a fake on ebay, in fact I would not have bought the tie in this thread had it been more than the $10 I paid.

So, does anyone here own (or has seen) a zegna with stitching like the first one where the name is offset inside a rectangle?

It might just be the angle of the shot, but it appears the right side of the tie is shorter than the left side.
