"Well, go on. Get your Ben Sherman on."

It worked well as a period piece but fell apart a bit towards the end. The kid in it (main character) was pretty damn good.

I sent a copy to GetSmart a few months back so I'm sure she'll be in here drapped in a Union Jack to give some opinions, too.

Yea, it's been playing in LA for a couple weeks now.

thanks to my slave wench Whodini I got a dvd copy of this a few months back.

Overall it's pretty good. I think the depiction of early 80s skins was accurate, from their dress style to the overall plot. It would have been nice to see more music from that time (the real stuff guys were listening to that wouldnt have a major label demanding $$$ for licensing usage)

I really liked the Combo character. He had more complexity than your run of mill skinhead racist and is probably representative of the type of guy that was WP than is usually presented by media. I also liked the excitement the kids feel when they get their first pair of Docs or Ben Sherman. It was something I could relate to since I had the same euphoria back in the 80s.

I couldnt help feel the movie was a bit plodding in its pacing tho. Not that I was expecting or wanted Romper Stomper but it could have had a bit more pace to it. I didnt like the 2nd half where a lot of the major characters from the first half of the film are just forgotten about and you never see em again. The final scene is a bit ambiguous but in retrospect I think it's done well as an abstract "you figure it out" kind of finish.

Overall, a good film that is worth checking out. It will have a bit more interest/impact if you were a part of the skinhead scene, even tho the film isn't really a skinhead movie. It just happens to use characters who are, but the basic premise of fitting in, camaraderie, and personal struggle is one that anybody can identify with.

Slightly O/T, GS, if you're interested in period stuff from that scene, you'd love Robert Elms' memoir The Way We Wore.
