Just picked this up, it's pretty anyways. I retired my Halo 3, just too unwieldy to carry around and I was always afraid I'd Lorena Bobbitt myself.

As much as I dislike folders and tanto blades, that looks like a pretty nice knife. Is it assisted open?

+ $200 is pretty steep for a knife that size also... But maybe thats about right for a tac folder, I'm not really familiar with the pricing structure on those, since I don't really like them.

It's not assist, but I actually prefer that, because it cuts down on the bulk and weight of the knife, and Microtechs are really easy to open as it is. Microtechs are pretty expensive but not necessarily more so than top of the line Benchmade, Spyderco, etc... and they're great quality. I've had my mini-Socom elite for 2+ years and it can still split hairs w/o a sharpening. Granted, I haven't cut anyone with it like I had with my Cold Steel Recon Tanto...

My main beef with folders is the handle, I prefer the rounded or oval shaped handle of a fixed blade combat or boot knife to the flat handle of the folder. Its much more secure in my hand, and I can flip the knife from saber to reverse grip very easily.

Any folders that you know of with thicker handles?

My SOG has a pretty thick handle, but I don't like it that much because it isn't very sharp. I need to get it professionally sharpened, I guess. Microtech's Vector is an interesting knife but since I think it's not functional for anything other than impaling someone, I don't own one haha. On a slightly unrelated note, I almost tasered someone today. I keep one tucked underneath this little ledge thing that is near my front door, and I'd cracked the door to get ready to go out and was getting my shoes when the UPS guy showed up but I guess he wasn't expecting the door to be unsecured and when he knocked on it (hard) it burst open. I had the safety off of the taser and had it leveled when I realized it was just the delivery guy. He almost **** himself, I think. I almost pulled a campus police, and maybe I could have gotten into the LA Times!

Only thing that comes to mind are the pretty custom wood-handle folders. Just can't think of a rounded plastic/metal folder off hand. I picked up one of these at Fry's the other day on a whim: http://www.knifeworks.com/index.asp?...OD&ProdID=6233 Fairly happy with it so far. Solid liner lock, nice weight, and hardly notice it clipped to my front pocket.

I live pretty close to SOG, it only takes me about half an hour to go up to the plant and have them sharpen my pentagon. Nice folks.

The whole situation was pretty weird because I wasn't quite ready to go out yet and wasn't strapped. You don't exactly expect to have your front door burst open in Newport Coast either...

Just showed up from UPS. It's a really serious knife, my Mini Socom Elite looks like a child's toy next to this thing.

TS, the handle is actually really heavy and substantial and so is the blade, which is crazy sharp. I split a hair with it pretty damn easily.
