"Third Suit" Options?

Hi all. Not sure if this warrants its own thread, but I was wondering if you might recommend a good "third" suit pattern/color. I have already got the charcoal and navy locked down and I am in the market for a third for the summer. I am thinking lighter in color, though not necessarily summer weight/fabric... something that can transition into Spring and maybe fall. I know I do not want pinstripes, and was thinking a lighter grey in perhaps a herringbone weave. However, I am worried this might be too flashy... would it be better to go for more of a plaid or check? Any advice?

Herringbone isn't flashy at all. How about a navy, or charcoal pinstripe?

As I don't wear a suit everyday, I tend to buy to cover situations. So suits for interviews, weddings, events. I think after navy and charcoal, you have to think what you need a suit for. If it isn't work, then flashy might be appropriate.

Three piece Prince of Wales Check in grey such as this? Waistcoat for the cooler months alongside an interesting pattern?

It is for work, in a relatively conservative (though not conservative business dress/law) work environment. I also know for certain that I do not want pin stripes. I know that I will not need a black, and figure brown would be a bit off for the summer season.... hence the light to mid grey. I'm really just torn between going plain (no pattern), herringbone, or check. So the herringbone weave will not be too flashy on a lighter grey?

x2 on the Prince of Wales Check in grey. Excellent third choice.

If I had only a navy and charcoal, I would get a mid grey suit next.

I think something in a light grey would work well, it would certainly be less formal and open up some possibilities for being flashy while also still able to be toned down. That PoW suit posted above looks perfect.

Great responses. So I am basically between the following two options:

The only reservation I have about the POW is that I am quite short... so I would think the herringbone stripes would help to elongate my body, while the POW would make me look stockier. Both would be suitable 2-3 season options though, correct?

I personally like the look of POW better -- but, I too am short, and I completely understand your reservation. Consider this a bump just to get some opinions on this concern.

I'm with AJ.

I like the first PoW especially. The vain of baby blue running through it gives you some options to be more playful with tie, shirt and pocket square combinations. And the blue definitely makes it more Springy, as you mentioned you were looking for.

POW beats herringbone all the time! (but maybe that's just me)

1st POW. I wouldn't worry about being short, the pattern is fine enough that when someone is close enough to see it, they already know how short you are.

I also vote for mid-grey. I prefer plain but my bias against PoW is just personal, that would be fine too.
