So far I own one faux leather jacket, and have no prior experience with real leather jacket. TBH, I only got the faux leather jacket for the 'rocker' look and I opted for a faux one because it is much cheaper and Im not sure how much I was going to wear it, plus it looked pretty similar to those real leather jackets.
However, recently Ive found that I have wearing the faux leather jacket quite frequently and I thought that a real leather jacket might be a worthwhile investment. I have only tried 3 leather jackets. 2 of them were from some retail in Paris. One was about 400usd, the other about 1000usd. To be honest, I couldnt tell much of a difference between those 2. They felt buttery and smooth, definitely a much better feel than my faux leather jacket. The 3rd was from Korea, a brandless leather jacket that was about 300usd. According to the store owner, its made from lambskin. This one feels abit different, as in it seems more rough and less stretchy. Lower grade of leather perhaps? (Im a frequent traveller)
So to cut the story short here are my main concerns...
I have a budget of about 1000usd, but if I could get something of quality below 600usd that would be ideal. I want a jacket that can last a lifetime(if possible). I dont babysit my clothes but I dont go out and purposely bash them up either. Another thing Im worried about is the maintanence, since I live in a warm and humid place Im not sure if its the most conducive environment for the longevity of a leather jacket.
Im not sure how to judge the level of cold protection of a particular jacket either. My faux jacket traps heat really well, so it can only be worn in a cold environment. I believe there are some jackets that breathes more, but I dont know how to tell.
My top priority for the jacket is (looks aside) durability. I have heard that the highest grades of leather are the most comfortable, but not neccesarily the most durable, is that true?
What are your opinion of the leather jackets from say Topman and Zara?
Thanks for reading, all help appreciated!
