I really appreciate this thread, I really do. But if some of these people annoy some of you guys so much, why can't you unsubscribe from them or hide their status updates? Or grow a pair and defriend them if they're worth making fun of online. Anyway, carry on.

Maybe I commented on this before, but it's come up again. I have friends on FB who have their own businesses, and their FB persona is about their business/blog/hobby. Actually, there are two cases: 1) where a friend has created a business page (and I friend or like both), and 2) where a friend's every personal post is about they make XXXXXX and they are a XXXXXX maker and BTW I posted FSFSD to my blog and blog this and blog that.

Case 1) I can deal with because I feel like I know who this person is. They talk about themselves, their experiences, etc - they are People. I see their business and know it's an advertisement but I'm good with it because I at least know something about them.

Case 2) has caused Friend-drop because I don't feel like I'm de-friending a person - I'm de-friending a blog. Or a business venture. No person there to speak of, just someone who makes XXXXXXX.

Not dumb, just something that makes me laugh every time I see it: I've got a fb friend who posts fairly regularly about what she is preparing for dinner. Often it is a dish she calls "trailer park nachos." The name seems to suggest that regular nachos are an upmarket delicacy, and that she is enjoying the downmarket version.

I am tired of the posts complaining about the improper use of: there, they're, were, we're and so on.

Is it seriously that much of a big deal? I don't remember people always caring, when did this trend start?

Maybe not on facebook...but that's always existed amongst people who understand the difference. As long as quick written communication via the internet has been around, it becomes really obvious when someone gets it wrong...that didn't happen as much pre-internet since casual communication relied much more on spoken words.

Also, its really, REALLY not hard to get them right. At least with there/their/they're...were/we're just sounds like lazy typing and skipping the apostrophe which is different than not actually knowing that they're different words.

If you're going to be posting your writing in a public forum...would it kill you to at least use the right words? I mean, I'm not going to post a comment on your facebook if you do it...but I'll probably silently judge you.

I'm not a native speaker, and I don't really have any trouble with using the right word in the right context - barring the occasional typo.
