I made a pasta salad yesterday that just ******* killed it. Some keys are:

Let pasta come to room temp prior to making the salad
Don't rinse the pasta
Add some vinegar to brighten it up
Lots of finely chopped veg

They've had them in military aircraft ejection systems since the 1950s. Just sayin' it's a pretty violent process

Always nice when military ejector technology makes it's way into commercial application

I didn't mean to turn this into a multipage discussion on coolers and upper midwestern dating habits...

But since that's where we are, I'm thinking I might go with one of these:

Unlike some brands, the 35 actually means 35 quart capacity (a yeti 35 is only 29qt, the 45 is only 37qt).

Dimensionally it ends up being a little bigger than the Yeti 35, but has almost as much space as the 45. Costs a little more than the RTIC 45, but is noticeably smaller.

Only con is that the lock holes (needed for bearproofing) are in kind of an awkward spot which really limits your options for locks (normal locks won't fit, but too long of a lock would allow a bear to get their hands inside).

Ended up getting a good deal on one of these Canyon coolers.

Haven't used it yet, but I think it will work well. Just need to find some locks that work with the stupid lock holes to keep the bears out...

I think the size/shape makes for a solid compromise.

I have an RTIC 45 cooler, and saw the Canyon coolers at the hardware store today. They look nice, but are about $80 more (at retail price -I got a substantial discount on the RTIC ($143 from their Black Friday sale in 2017)). The RTIC has served us very well for stuff that needs to be kept cold for 4-5 days. Our old Coleman works perfectly well for keeping beer and soda cold.
