The lady signed up for one of those meal delivery services (Hello Fresh) with a promo code. Intended to cancel after 2 weeks as the promo started to phase out unless we really liked it. Net price would have been ~$8-9 per meal

Friday night, the first box of 3 meals shows up.

Saturday afternoon, the second box shows up. Wait...why did we get the next 3 meals before we had even cooked the first one?

Go onto the website to complain and they refund the box. Made the first meal last night and it was pretty good.

She goes to make the second one tonight and the onion's gone bad on the inside so we have to use one of our own. Go back to the website to complain and they are going to give a credit to apply to the next order. Point out that we have already cancelled and they turn it into a refund of $17.

Net price is now less than $1 per meal. How do they eff up that bad with a first time customer? I don't mind taking money from VCs, but they ain't gonna last long if they keep throwing it out like this.

Spending a significant amount of money (say, five figures and up) on a bottle of wine. You can't enjoy it until you consume it, and once you consume it, you can't enjoy it anymore.

i was talking to some dude at a party years ago and we started chatting about wine. (i think we got on to this topic because of all the godawful trader joe's wine that everyone had brought.) turns out the guy's family back in switzerland (at least i think it was switzerland) was seriously into wine. and when we started talking about the super expensive wines he had gotten to try in his life, he mentioned that his parents once sold some of their romanee conti that they had stored away and paid for a family vacation.

i'm just a pleb, so that conversation really impressed upon me how for people with intergenerational wealth and knowhow, buying expensive wine is an investment as well as a lavish expenditure. just blowing lots of money on wine to feel like a baller or whatever might only be a nouveau riche thing.

Damn, you complain a lot

How else you gonna get free food?

Also, we paid for meals for the next 2 weeks and they screwed up scheduling and left us with food that wouldn't last past this weekend...and then we find that some of the food was already bad?

Wouldn't have complained about just the onion, but come on, that's awful. And if you were reliant on these instead of groceries, you might not just have extra onions laying around.

Inter generational wealth > all. Europe really does it well as sometimes it’s centuries worth. I wonder how many generations old money in Europe requires not to be merely parvenus?

For those of us raised by parents who grew up in the depression, thank you for keeping their traditions alive.

I think much less than in America.
Even 'old money' guys in the colonies often show the harshness, self concern and despise of lesser affluent people, typical "of the man who rises to power / from one suspender"
