1. And... we're back. You'll notice that all of your images are back as well, as are our beloved emoticons, including the infamous :foo: We have also worked with our server folks and developers to fix the issues that were slowing down the site.

There is still work to be done - the images in existing sigs are not yet linked, for example, and we are working on a way to get the images to load faster - which will improve the performance of the site, especially on the pages with a ton of images, and we will continue to work diligently on that and keep you updated.

    Cheers,

Betimes celebrity women pose for photographs in a state of undress with the explicit intention of sending some kind of message (such as Keira Knightley has done recently). Has such a gesture ever actually succeeded in conveying the intended message?

I sort of agree with some reddit user who said this:

Eh, that would be great but I think it's unlikely. Those insecurities are far more deeply embedded and irrational than that, I'm afraid.

Today some people who thought I had sophistication to me be asked whether some wine (whose name I don't recall) would be paired better with white rice or with mostaccioli. I was like "Uhh, I don't know you could maybe try paring it with Krackel that has rice in it."

I really don't understand the terminally ill woman's decision to publicize her suicide.

Activism. She wanted to try and change minds so that the option might be available to others who need it. She succeeded- she got this country talking about assisted suicide/death with dignity, and really got a whole lot more people to understand what's at stake for terminally ill people, and why they should have the option.

I don't get why people oppose assisted suicide laws, but substantial numbers do. She was trying to change that.

and news outlets totally knew they could lap this one up. Put a picture of her smiling mug up with a headline that translates to "this chick is totally going to kill herself in 8 day", and boom you have a most-read story. And indeed they were most-read stories.

If it was some old woman, nobody would care.

Simple rule of journalism: Everything is more newsworthy when attractive white chicks are involved.

You can say that about 2 million things, gay marriages, gay adoption, abortion, why weed is illegal, the list goes on. (thankfully the first 3 are legal here).

She has a cause she believes in...

I have actually some respect for her even if I'm still sitting on the fence on that particular issue.

I'm for it it if some legal safeguards are put in place...

@Kid Nickels , I read that the Coloradoan government has received less tax revenue on weed than expected.. I'm not surprised given how expensive it is. The consumer is willing to sacrifice quality over a good bargain.

@lasbar , I don't see the SCOTUS ruling on it anytime soon.

I don't smoke, but logic says it should be legal, as the police doesn't have to waste resources on it, it would create tax revenue in the billions and its easier to help people with get psychosis if, its legal like alcohol.

There's just too much corruption in government today and I'm sick and tired of it not just in the US but also in Québec (Charbonneau Commission) and Portugal (José Sócrates).
