Big Bang Theory. Why do people ******* love this show?

I agree, though it's not much more baffling than the popularity of any top-rated sitcom. Two and a Half Men, etc. What baffles me even more are the smart people I know who watch these shows. My own ******* father, who is as well-read and educated and cultured a man as you'll ever meet (museum board chair, world-class japanese studio porcelain collector, history wizard, business exec, world traveler) owns DVDs of this show.

I watched a couple seasons worth, but like most sitcoms, it became repetitive and boring. My wife, who is infinitely smarter than I will ever be, still watches it almost weekly. I don't get it.

Identifying trends, and modes in cross-sections of populations is thought of as intelligence in most circles, and science in advanced circles.

It's nothing special but I liked this show too. All Trek and Wars references are nice touch and it was funny that they made Wil Wheaton a villain.
I've watched about 20-40 episodes, I don't feel tempted to watch anymore of them like someone mentioned it becomes reptitive.. unlike Game of thrones

Yeah, that's what was good about the beginning...but it is a Chuck Lorre production so you've got to expect it to follow the 2 and a half men route. In order for everybody to get the jokes...they have to make them super obvious and bland. The writers aren't good enough to write jokes for the masses but still have lots of layered tidbits for people who get the reference (like Archer or many Disney movies where they stick in a ton of jokes for the parents, but the kids still love the movie). Gotta move away from the Firefly references and stick to obvious Star Trek and general nerd jokes (lol computer games!!).

I remember seeing the first episode when it premiered and thinking "this is going to be dumb" only to be pleasantly surprised by genuine nerd humor layered in with full fledged masturbation jokes.
