1. And... we're back. You'll notice that all of your images are back as well, as are our beloved emoticons, including the infamous :foo: We have also worked with our server folks and developers to fix the issues that were slowing down the site.

There is still work to be done - the images in existing sigs are not yet linked, for example, and we are working on a way to get the images to load faster - which will improve the performance of the site, especially on the pages with a ton of images, and we will continue to work diligently on that and keep you updated.

    Cheers,

Just tried to negotiate a 50% salary increase for doing my old job and my new one. I mean it makes sense, I am awesome and the company would save money that way rather than hiring another person. He thinks it sounds ridiculous, and was laughing. Wtf?

well if he isn't share holder he probably doesn't give a shit about company saving money or not
I'd say just before you jump ship take big load of work and leave it unfinnished in various stages of progression, then don't return his calls

The problem with this is that you've just told him you're not working as hard as you can.

Basing it on my extensive and long(2yr) career(lowest level) in a corporation, I say this is a classic Houston-Dallas scenario. Houston sees you as a role player, so figure out who is willing to overpay for you(Dallas).

that makes me think - what should one do on a last day of work? The first thing that comes to my mind is a toilet clogging dump, but i'm sure there's other good ideas.

lets pretend that nobody is retiring and they're moving on because of the "fuck this shit" environment. No, that's not happening to me, but I am curious about ideas generated.

Never slam the door, you don't know if you might need something in the future and goodwill is always nice to have.

The only time I pissed of an employer, was because my boss had left early and came in late on a Friday, where I wanted to hand in my notice, but as he wasn't there went I left or when I came back, so I had to do it on Monday instead, which resulted in my last day being a Monday, which wasn't going to happen.

Needless to says they were pissed, as Monday was the busiest day of the week and it was during the summer holidays, so they were short staffed to begin with.

But that it what you get for not paying what you promised.

The best fuck off I personally witnessed was this guy who got drunk at a Christmas party, got escorted away by HR, banged a coworker in the parking lot anyway (who's husband also worked at the company), and then left before getting fired - to a job at a competitor two levels higher than his old job.

Afterwards we found out that he was supplementing his income by awarding supplier contracts to his cronies for kickbacks. Of course my company declined to go after him in any way because he was already gone

As much as I often desire to rip off someone's head off and shit down his neck pipe I try to remember that you tend to see the same people on the way down that you saw on the way up. Then again I've not changed jobs for 10 years so I've had no opportunity.

Related to leaving a job and seeing the same people on the way up as the way down: the last time I left a job on bad terms was in the late 90s. It was one of those, "I quit!" "No, you can't quit because you're fired." I answered to the ED of the SBU and he was a prick and I wasn't planning to leave but the time had come. I also am 100% sure he bagged on me on reference checks as I had someone make the call. Fucking prick.

Fast forward to 2010. Prick has fallen in the world and applied at my place for a job well below the level when we first met. I brought him in just to gloat and tell him there wasn't a chance in hell he'd ever work at a place I was running.

Every time there is a news story about a college athlete turning pro before getting his degree, there are many of comments be like "Stupid decision must needs get that degree for a career after sport what a looser!" In almost every case, the person going pro is going to make more money in one year than the commenter will probably make in a lifetime. Why do commenters always make that comment?
