1. And... we're back. You'll notice that all of your images are back as well, as are our beloved emoticons, including the infamous :foo: We have also worked with our server folks and developers to fix the issues that were slowing down the site.

There is still work to be done - the images in existing sigs are not yet linked, for example, and we are working on a way to get the images to load faster - which will improve the performance of the site, especially on the pages with a ton of images, and we will continue to work diligently on that and keep you updated.

    Cheers,

I don't know about old people doing it...they are just weird.

But for young people, there is kind of a history behind it. The first couple of years of facebook were *very* different than they are now...and birthday greetings were kind of a thing. People would blow up someone's wall on facebook for their birthday in much the same way that people might put up a giant piece of construction paper on someone's dorm door for their birthday for everybody to write happy birthday on.

For a while, the wall was more like one giant text whiteboard--kind of like a big wiki page that anyone could edit. So you would essentially turn the largest "content block" on someone's page into a big birthday card from everybody. Then they moved to separate posts, but there was still no newsfeed and there were no likes...the only reason you would post on their page is if you wanted them to see it. Of course, there's kind of a warm fuzzy feeling you get when a ton of people wish you happy birthday...and someone is much more likely to wish an acquaintance a happy birthday via facebook than by phone/text (may not even have their number).

So...there is this vestigial force of habit where when I see the sidebar say it is a friend's birthday...I go write the damn happy birthday post.

See, you're getting old, because "young" people don't remember FB's infancy.

I felt old after graduating college but lately I feel young again. It's all about brackets.

He had to clear out a member who requested his history be erased, and Rambo being Rambo, decided to torch the halls of antiquity and keep just the current activity. Nothing personal, it's just personal.

(of course, this post might get me tossed from his board, and I love the guy, but at this point I could get tossed from any board and not feel much sense of loss)

Yeah, I don't really care about it but find it quite bizarre.

Bizarre to ordinary people like you perhaps. It makes perfect sense for Rambo.

what I don't get are married couples posting and tagging their spouses with humblebrags like "lets plan our next vacay to hoboken, (name of spouse)" or "(name of spouse) bring me to red robin on a date next time"... fuck you, you pieces of shits.

won't her nips get bitten off?

oh so that's what happened. :(

But other people won't see it, if you call, text, show up at her house (they might on the last one), so what's the point.
