1. And... we're back. You'll notice that all of your images are back as well, as are our beloved emoticons, including the infamous :foo: We have also worked with our server folks and developers to fix the issues that were slowing down the site.

There is still work to be done - the images in existing sigs are not yet linked, for example, and we are working on a way to get the images to load faster - which will improve the performance of the site, especially on the pages with a ton of images, and we will continue to work diligently on that and keep you updated.

I had pink eye last week. I should have known this then. Would I have to put the OJ in my eye?

XP end of life = this April. You can count on huge exploits hitting the Netwebs for it.

Win 7 is a huge improvement over XP.

Win 8 seems like a goofy assed piece of shit...but when has a sequential consumer windows release been good? ME? Vista? 95 (it was revolutionary but sorely lacking in many areas that were fixed with win98)? After every good release, there is a shitty one.

I actually really like Windows 8.1. The metro interface is rough to understand without a touch environment. Once I had a touchpad with my computer, it became much more intuitive.

As an aside, I don't get Reddit Gone Wild and other similar subreddits. Are girls these days really that eager to take off their clothes and get down....

Exhibitionism + lifetime of sexting + poor self esteem = GoneWild. "But it's empowering!" Greatest lie that men ever put over on women.

Although, some of those chicks actually make pretty good money doing that stuff (camwhores do too). Desperate losers will just throw money at them for stupid shit.

Punk rock fans. Not all of them, I just mean the ones who get super serious about it, engaging in never-ending debates about the true meaning of punk, when the true meaning of punk was lost forever, which acts are really punk and which ones aren't, which ones used to be punk but sold out (all of them, it seems like), and what's the cosmic meaning of their having sold out. I'm not an insider to that world by a long shot, but the constant navel-gazing seems weird to me.

This isn't unique to punk. Quite the opposite, it's pretty much par for the course for anything a lot of people care about, especially things like music where people tend to incorporate it into their identity.

Are you saying you don't get the behavior itself, or is there something about punk that you feel makes it weirder in context?

In my (limited) experience, the form this takes among punk fans is different, in at least two ways. First, I have found that punk fans treat these issues as Serious Business to a degree greater than comparable groups. I've certainly participated in communities of music fans (not punk, though) and have seen how committed people are to teasing out every little bit of meaning. But I haven't seen that kind of earnestness about it. And second, in my experience, punk fans are concerned with issues of boundary drawing to a greater degree than I see in similar groups: who's a member in good standing, who's not, and most prominently, who has betrayed the cause. Again, all these groups are concerned with boundaries, but the degree of concern just seems much greater to me.

EDIT: I think the community of Phish fans makes an interesting contrast. (I am not part of that community either, but I know people who are.)

No, I don't know what that is.

I have some friends who are in that community, and I was reminded recently of some of the discussions I witnessed.

Most of the true punks I have known growing up I would classify as bums, useless, ignorant, lazy, part of the problem, wastes of life. Most of the fake punks I have known growing up are working with some some aspect of cultural capital. SO what does that say about punks?
