Currently on a work trip with colleagues. On the plane, two women got into a spirited debate about whether one should wash or rinse the dishes before loading it into the dishwasher. I didn’t get the strong opinions.

So I mentioned this to my coworkers when we landed, and it’s touched off a debate that is still raging. Now I don’t get two things -

First, why is this a debate?
Second, why do I work with disgusting people who don’t pre-rinse their dishes??

With modern dishwashers you're not supposed to pre-rinse. @otc has a lot of strong opinions on this.

Yeah, read the fücking manual if you want to settle the debate. Unless you have some ancient POS dishwasher or particularly filthy dishes that need soaking, just put that **** in there.

Also, utensils go in the basket handles DOWN if you want them clean. Don’t be a little ***** who points all the forks and stuff down because you might poke yourself or something.

I've never owned or used a dishwasher in my life. At this point it seems pretty likely I never will.

Omg.....I'd rather be dead.
I put everything in there that will fit.
I'd get in it myself, except for all the pokey rack things.

I have a third rack which is dedicated to utensils, so they don't face up or down.

Yeah, that seems like the way the companies have solved the problem of people loading it wrong and then complaining that their spoons aren’t clean…

That seems to be how Bosch differentiates their series too…my 100 has been fine as a dishwasher, but the layout/organization sucks. Can’t fit my bowls anywhere nicely, I don’t like the position of the utensil holder as you have to fully open the door and slide the drawer out just to get to the basket, and the sizing for things on the top rack also doesn’t fit stuff well.

The higher end units seem to have better layouts which is a ******* annoying way to price discriminate (but would totally work on me…if I were replacing this I would 100% buy 300+ just for the racks)
