I don’t get people who upload bad pictures of themselves to their corporate directory. For my org, that means your terrible looking pic is what I see on the directory on our intranet, when you email me on Outlook, when you DM me on slack, and what’s hugely displayed on your webconferencing window when your camera is not on.

I mean, even if I try to step out of my persona of vain SF member, shouldn’t everyone want to do the bare minimum of making sure that people at work don’t think they’re some kind of beast??

Nope, I want the worst possible picture; like Nick Nolte mugshot bad. That way, no one will recognize me and stop me in the halls to ask stupid questions.

Such devices probably don't actually meet the USB-C spec. Likely, they were designed and tested only with connections to USB-A. Sloppy implementation due to incompetent and/or cheapskate designers.

Most likely the offending devices lack pull-down resistors Rd on the CC pins. That's what tells the USB-C power source to turn the power on. With USB-A sources, the power is always on. If there's a resistor on one CC pin, but not the other, the supposedly "symmetrical" USB-C might work if you turn the connector around 180° (at the power sink device end). It might be worth a try.
